When discussing Dye-dedicated destinations, one cannot forget the public-access trove that exists just north of Las Vegas: The Paiute Golf Resort features 54 holes, all designed by Pete Dye, along with his son Perry and his niece, Cynthia Dye-McGarey. Although the competition is stiff, The Wolf is often celebrated as the best of this bunch.
A portion of its popularity is due, as is the case at many of Pete’s best, to the challenge required to beat this beast. For one, it’s more than 7,600 yards from the back tees, which the resort advertises as the longest course in Nevada.
Although you’ll need a big stick to compete from back there, many of the most daunting shots will be at The Wolf’s shortest holes. No. 12 is a long “Cape” par three over water, and No. 15 is an example of Dye’s iconic island short. The worst place to find yourself on a short hole, however, may be a miss-right at No. 8: The ball can tumble down to a waste bunker that sits nearly 40 feet below the putting surface.
The other courses at Paiute are its respective mountains: Snow Mountain and Sun Mountain.

Pete Dye captained the college team in his youth before going on to qualify for the US Open in 1957. He won the Indiana State Amateur, took part in The Amateur in 1963 and played in five US Amateurs.
