Larvik
Larvik, Vestfold og Telemark- AddressStavernsveien 232, 3267 Larvik, Norway
Larvik Golf Club is set on the edge of Larvik Fjord and is naturally influenced by sea breezes. The 6,868-yard course opened for play in 1993 and Swede Jan Sederholm designed it.
666 may be the Number of the Beast according to the Book of the Revelation but in Larvik’s case it represents an equal half dozen par threes, fours and fives on the intriguing scorecard. Host to a European Challenge Tour event in 2006 and the SAS Ladies Masters in 2009, Larvik can represent a fearsome test when it is set up in its championship livery but from the forward tees the flat and links-like Larvik remains playable for the handicap golfer, except perhaps when the wind is up.
Key to scoring well is to find the smallish greens which are generally narrow and well protected at the entrance. With plenty of water and numerous bunkers in play, Larvik is a demanding course and with its unusual 666 configuration it’s not only one of Norway’s finest tracks but also one of great variation and interest.
