- AddressBumbu Rd, Lae, Papua New Guinea
The town of Lae in Morobe Province is the largest port in Papua New Guinea and it was formed in the gold rush period of the 1920s and 30s when cargo arrived by ship to be taken by air to the goldfields in Wau.
Lae Golf Club was formed in 1951 on the site of a former US military ordnance depot and members played over six holes for a couple of years before another three were added. It was not until 1964 that the club created the first 18-hole layout in the country.
Lae golf course has undergone significant changes in recent years with the addition of many bunkers and the planting of many new trees. It is now a more challenging test of golf, fit to host the annual Morobe Open which is part of North Queensland Professional Tour.
