The ancient settlement of Kidjaberg is mentioned in Landnámabók, the medieval Icelandic written work that describes in great detail the colonization of Iceland by the Norse people in the 9th and 10th centuries.

The golf course at Kidjaberg doesn’t go that far back, of course. Work started on it in 1989 when a few members contributed to its design and it officially opened for play as a 9-hole layout five years later.

It’s since been extended to an 18-hole track (in 2005) and there’s also now a 5-hole par three course available for junior and learner golfers.

The layout of the main course is in perfect harmony with the surrounding landscape, where the river Hvíta (the White River) runs past on two sides of a peninsular property as it makes its way from the Hvítárvatn lake on the Langjökull glacier to the Atlantic.

The course itself measures a very reasonable 5,990 metres from the back tees, playing to a par of 71, and feature holes include all four of the short par fours, at the 5th and 8th on the front nine and holes 10 and 14 on the back nine.
