The home course for the Oklahoma University Sooners is dense with hometown history. Perry Maxwell, a native Oklahoman with celebrated layouts across the Central United States, laid out the original OU Golf Course. His course was renovated extensively by Bob Cupp during the ‘90s, and was renamed after donor Jimmie Austin, who contributed mightily to the project. Finally, Tripp Davis — a member of the university’s 1989 national championship team — returned for a final bout of renovating.
Bishop Creek divides the property vertically, but only rarely comes into play. Players will recognize Maxwell’s bunkering style across the layout, but modern updates have brought it to nearly 7,500 yards in length. That has allowed Jimmie Austin to host both the Men’s and Women’s U.S. Public Links Championship since the turn of the century.
