Set within the dense woods of Northern Vermont, the Graham Cooke-designed course at the Jay Peak Resort is recognised as a top public facility in the Green Mountain state. Located just five miles from the Canadian border, the course is just one of several sporting amenities at a ski resort which offers visitors all year round outdoor activities.
“Like most ski area courses,” writes Daniel Wexler in The American Golf Resort Guide, “it is laid into a valley beneath the slopes and, amidst Cooke’s modern shaping, offers a strong test set attractively against a mountainous North Country backdrop.
A primary hazard is Jay Branch Brook, a meandering creek which, along with a tributary, prominently affects play at holes like the 407-yard 9th (fronting the green complex), and the 527-yard 16th, where it crosses the lay-up zone.
Though three of the one-shotters are similar in their pond-crossing design, the 220-yard 14th is a standout, as is the 440-yard 18th, which first crosses, then bends leftward around, an overgrown ravine.”
