Ironwood (South)
Palm Desert, California- Address73735 Irontree Dr, Palm Desert, CA 92260, USA
The South is the longer and tougher of the two courses at Ironwood Country Club. Laid out by Desmond Muirhead in 1974 and redesigned by Ted Robinson soon after, the South gracefully meanders its way along the foothills of the Santa Rosa Mountains in Palm Desert.
In The American Private Golf Club Guide, author Daniel Wexler describes the course thus: “It runs southward along the mountains, eventually crossing a concrete-walled dry wash on two occasions to access nine outlying holes. All of the South’s water (along with much of its interest) lies among these.
The holes on the clubhouse side are long and strong, and occasionally interesting (the 525-yard 10th and 444-yard 16th feature greens flanked by sandy waste areas) but are largely back and forth in nature.”
