Innisfail (Aspen & Hazelwood)
Innisfail, Alberta- Address6080 Lakewood Dr, Innisfail, AB T4G 1S7, Canada
Two-time host to the Alberta Men's Amateur Championship (most recently in 2018) the course at Innisfail Golf Club is set to the south of Red Deer. The club was founded in 1924 and today the course consists of three 9-hole circuits named Aspen, Hazelwood and Spruce with the latter loop being the shortest of the trio.
Routed through stands of mature poplar and spruce trees, the Aspen and Hazelwood nines extend to an overall length of 6,672 yards, playing to a par of 72, with two par threes and two par fives on each loop. Water comes into play at three holes on the Aspen, protecting the front left of the green at the par five 2nd, the par four 3rd and par three 5th holes.
The star of the show at Innisfail is the 362-yard 6th on the Hazelwood, which was totally redesigned in late 2017 and opened for play mid-summer the following year. Hazelwood Lake lies to the left off the tee here, with dense bush guarding the right side of the fairway as the hole turns markedly left towards a heavily bunkered peninsula green that juts out into the lake.
