The Hotchkiss School is an independent boarding school, surrounded by the Hotchkiss Golf Course. Seth Raynor redesigned this 9-hole layout in 1924, forming a friendship with English teacher Charles Banks that would later develop into a design partnership.
The school’s original 6-holer was established in 1897 but this layout only remained in play for fourteen years before it was extended to nine holes. Seth Raynor then redesigned the course in 1924, with Charles Banks remodelling a couple of holes when a road was re-routed in the early 1930s.
At the start of the new millennium, George Bahto – historian, author and C.B. Macdonald/Seth Raynor/Charles Banks expert – was brought in as a design consultant, and he installed a new green on the uphill par four 4th hole in 2002.
