Greenore is a traditional old course situated in the picturesque Cooley Peninsula at the foot of Slieve Foy on the shores of Carlingford Lough in County Louth. Golf has been played here for over 100 years; certainly since the golf club was established in 1896.

In 1899 the course was extended from nine to eighteen holes and a pavilion type clubhouse was constructed the following year. Many revered golfers, including the great triumvirate of Vardon, Braid and Taylor, have played here.

The course consists of a mixture of “links-like” and parkland holes framed by tall pine trees. Many improvements have been made over the years including the construction of three new holes which are referred to by the members as the “country holes.”

The signature hole on the card is the 139-yard, par three 14th, named “Pig’s Back” which is a real test of nerve from the elevated tee.

The Greenore club constructed a magnificent new clubhouse in 1994 and it is the perfect place to reflect on a round as the sun sets over the Mourne mountains.
