In 1895, Tom Dunn laid out the initial 9-hole course at Goring & Streatley Golf Club. Twenty-seven years later “minor changes were made to the original nine hole layout under the advice of Harry Colt” according to the club’s history book.
In 1927, J.H. Turner, the professional at Frilford Heath, extended the layout with another seven holes then he returned the following year to add another two holes, completing the design of the new 18-hole course.
Additional land was secured in 1936 to lengthen a couple of holes and build two new ones, the 11th and 12th, then some ground was purchased next to the 15th hole in 1940 which has since been used as a turf nursery.
At the start of the new millennium, all the bunkers were refurbished, paths were reconstructed using rubberised products, and a drainage project – including the installation of a pond on the 8th – was undertaken to improve playing conditions.
