William Flynn redesigned the original Herbert Tweedie course at Glen View Club in 1922 and it served the members for almost eighty years before Davis Esler lovingly restored it in 1999.
The Glen View Club hosted the US Amateur in 1902, won by Louis James, and the US Open in 1904, won by Scotland’s Willie Anderson.
The course is well-regarded by Tom Doak who commented as follows in The Confidential Guide to Golf Courses: “The front nine sits up on a low, forested bluff, while the back nine sits down in the valley of the North Fork of the Chicago River, requiring water carries on every hole except the 15th and 16th.”

Flynn was raised outside Boston, where he competed against Francis Ouimet in school golf matches. His golf career started at Merion when he was part of the construction team on today's East course.
