Fermoy Golf Club was founded in 1893, with golfers practicing their playing skills on a course laid out next to the old airfield in Fermoy. In 1972, the club moved six kilometres south to Corrin Hill, calling in Commander John Harris to fashion a new 18-hole course for the members.

In the book Hooked, an amateur’s guide to the golf courses of Ireland, author Kevin Markham describes the course as providing “rollercoaster, thrilling golf routed between lines of pine trees and avenues of gorse and heather… and then there’s the back nine, with its big contours and bigger views across the Cork countryside.”

Measuring 5,720 metres from the back tees, the course plays to a par of 70, featuring five par threes and three par fives. Fairways are routed across hilly terrain, offering great views across the Avondhu countryside, with the back nine especially demanding.

Feature holes include the 326-metre par four 1st (the landscape on this hole pretty much sets the tone for the round), the challenging 476-metre par five 6th, and the 420-metre 13th, a tough par four (rated stroke index 1) where the fairway falls severely from the tee before sharply rising again to the green.
