Edina Country Club dates back to 1923 and one year later Tom Bendelow fashioned the club’s first 18-hole course on a rather tight and hilly property. Tom Lehman and Chris Brands renovated the layout in 2011, retaining much of Bendelow’s original design intent.
In The American Golf Resort Guide, author Daniel Wexler makes the following comments about the course as it is now: “the addition of bunkers and several ponds, plus lots of tree growth, surely make the course much harder today than during the Golden Age.
The tight nature of things add a bit of bite to longer par fours like the 422-yard 1st, the 429-yard 16th and 434-yard 18th, while water greatly affects play at both the 165-yard 4th and the 205-yard 7th.
A back nine which begins with three par fives in four holes is certainly a throwback, as not many architects would dare such a thing today.”
