The Lodge at Edgewood Tahoe and its 18-hole golf course lies on the south eastern shore of Lake Tahoe, adjacent to the state border with California. George Fazio and his nephew Tom designed the layout in 1968 and Tom has kept the place in shape ever since, applying the odd touch up here and there as required.
The first USGA event ever played in Nevada was held here in 1980, when future PGA Tour winner Jodie Mudd won the US Amateur Public Links Championship. Five years later, Miller Barber claimed the third of his three US Senior Open titles at Edgewood Tahoe with a winning margin of four shots over his nearest rival, Roberto De Vicenzo.
Since 1991, the course has been the home of the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship, featuring some of the biggest names in sports, entertainment and politics. Broadcast live on television, it’s a fun-filled, star-studded event that has raised around five million dollars down the years for numerous worthy charities.
Fourteen holes have water in play as fairways weave around meadow and forested lakeland areas. The 599-yard 3rd is an epic hole on the front nine, doglegging right to a raised green with two front-protecting bunkers. Holes 17 and 18 conclude the round in fine style by the lake, with the home green somehow squeezed in between a wall-lined pond and the shoreline.
