Rankings

The short but sweet parkland course at Devonvale Golf and Wine Estate is routed across the north facing slopes of Devon Valley, flanked by the vineyards of the Cape Winelands near Stellenbosch. Designed by local Western Cape architect Ken Elkin, the layout is routed over a former gravel quarry and around a dam.

Stretching to 5,926 metres from the back markers, the course is arranged as two returning nines, with two par threes and two par fives on each loop. Water comes into play at only three holes: the par three 9th (where the green sits to the right of the old water-filled gravel pit) and the 11th and 17th, which play on either side of a small lake.

Feature holes include back-to-back par fives on the southern perimeter of the property at the 2nd and 3rd, along with the strong par four 7th, which is rated stroke index 2. On the back nine, the left doglegging 17th is the shortest par five on the card but the green lies just to the right of a very intimidating water hazard.

Thee South African Women’s Open was hosted here in 2001 and 2002. Vanessa Smith won the first event with a five-under par score then Mandy Adamson captured the title the following year with an eight-under par total.
