The 18-hole Talons course at Country Hills Golf Club is an early 1990s layout which was redesigned by Tom McBroom in 2006, the architect accentuating its links-style character with bent grass and fescues, as well as improving the bunker strategy.
Extending to just over 7,200 yards from the back tees, the Talons course is more than capable of staging elite amateur and professional tournaments. Fairways are routed around five sparkling lakes and Nose Creek also comes into play occasionally. Feature holes include par fives at the 7th and 10th, which are recognized as two of the toughest on the scorecard.
The Canadian PGA Championship was hosted on the Talons course in 2012, with head professional Eric Laporte from Montcalm Club de Golf in Quebec winning the event. Incredibly, Laporte never trailed his opponent in any one of the six match play ties he was involved in on his way to securing the title, overcoming Lindsay Bernakevitch 3&1 in the final.
