Centurion, once a sleepy southern suburb of Pretoria, underwent tremendous growth in the early 1990s with many businesses relocating to the area and property development extending the town boundaries.

As part of that boom, Centurion Country Club was formed with Peter Matkovich designing an 18-hole course that opened in 1997. The architect has also been responsible for remodeling a number of the holes since then and this upgrading work has involved the removal of waste bunkers on four of the five holes between the 10th and 14th, replacing those areas with sand bunkers and grass mounding.

A large man-made lake is the centerpiece of the landscaping at Centurion and the clubhouse and five holes are all laid out around it to create a tough finish both nines. Five other holes are laid out on flat ground through which the Hennops River runs so there is plenty to concentrate the mind when playing here!

Notable holes away from the lake include the right doglegging par four 2nd (rated stroke index 2) and the left doglegging par four 4th in the south corner of the property, along with the longest of the par threes at the 211-metre 11th – though the par three 8th with its island green is undoubtedly the star of the show at Centurion!
