Capel
Stratham, Western Australia- Address1380 Bussell Hwy, Stratham WA 6230, Australia
Formed in 1928, Capel Golf Club initially operated from Tren Creek before moving three years later to the Capel racecourse. In 1964, the club upped sticks and relocated to a site just off the Bussell Highway in Stratham, where it remains to this day.
Holes are laid out on relatively flat terrain, with tight fairways lined by a plethora of different tree varieties, from Tuart to Jarrah, Banksia and Peppermint. Only a few holes, including the par four 2nd and par three 12th are orientated on an axis other than northeast-southwest, with many of the fairways running parallel to one another on both nines.
The Club hosts a number of competitions during the year, including the Capel Junior Open, Ladies’ Summer Cup, Easter Medley, Capel Classic, Capel Cup and the Capel 3000. The Capel Pro-Am, held annually in late May, is a major lead up event to the South West Open.
