Callander Golf Club was founded in 1890 and two years later, Old Tom Morris had laid out a 9-hole track in its current location. Willie Fernie is credited with extending the course to its present 18 holes in 1914.
Looking at the length of Callander you will see that it is only 5,185 yards from the medal tees and a mere 4,441 yards from the regular gents yellow tees. Seven holes are par threes and nine of the ten par fours are less than 375 yards so yardages alone tell you this is holiday golf, albeit very enjoyable holiday golf played in a beautiful setting on the edge of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park.
Callander is a lovely wee Stirlingshire town where Ben Ledi looms in the background, reminding you that this is the Gateway to the Highlands. The golf club nestles above the town on its northern hillside and it is an extremely relaxing place to play.
Fairways are fairly open and greens are relatively compact, putting a premium on accuracy with the tee shot and approach shot. Most holes are tree lined and routed in a very pleasing manner, which makes maximum use of a modest acreage.
The pick of the holes on the front nine is the 373-yard, par four 6th, named “Dell” where a semi blind, elevated green is protected by several large bunkers in front of the putting surface. The 136-yard, par three 15th, called “Avenue” is a lovely hole on the inward half where the tee shot must be played through a narrow gap in a stand of trees that lie between the tee box and the green.
Callander Golf Club is well used to hosting visitors during the year so you are assured of a warm welcome here every time you play.

In 1835, aged fourteen, Old Tom Morris worked in Allan Robertson's St Andrews workshop making golf balls and clubs. It’s said they were never beaten in a challenge match when paired together.
