Located five and a half kilometres inland from Busselton Jetty, which at 1,814 metres long is reckoned to be the longest timber-piled pier in the world, Busselton Golf Club can trace its origins back to 1907. Murray Dawson is credited with the redesign of the course in 1979.

The holes are laid out on a fairly flat landscape with red gum and peppermint trees lining the fairways, many of which dogleg one way or the other off the tee. Bunkers are reasonable in number but they’re well-placed, especially around the greens, so accurate approach play is essential for those interested in making a good score.

Busselton-born Stephen Leaney learned the game here before going on to represent Australia at amateur and professional level and although he lives elsewhere these days (with accommodations in Adelaide, Texas and Surrey) he’ll always have a soft spot for his home town course in the southwest region of Western Australia.
