Buenavista may be a little off the beaten track, but – like many courses situated in outlying areas that take a little time and trouble to get to – it is well worth the effort to play.

The recommended route to the course is via the small town of El Tanque but we recommend that you hang a left at Santiago del Tiede and take the narrow, twisting mountain road through Masca. Combining the sensational scenery of this tourist trail with 18 holes at Buenavista is an experience not to be missed.

Designed by Seve Ballesteros and opened in 2003, the course is laid out on cliff tops overlooking the Atlantic Ocean in the north west of Tenerife, just outside the small town of Buenavista del Norte in the Daute Isla Baja region and it comprises six par threes, six par fours and six par five holes.

Fairways are generally wide and forgiving, though don’t stray too far into the lateral waste areas as thick vegetation and rocks will hamper any attempt at retrieving a stray ball. Around the greens, sand-based putting surfaces are very receptive to holding approach shots and bunkers are generally wide and shallow, allowing a fair number of “sand saves” to be made.

Buenavista is unashamedly holiday golf at its very best and should be on every visiting golfers itinerary when holidaying in Tenerife.
