The golf complex at Bosque Real was expanded in 2008 when a 9-hole layout by Gary Nicklaus was unveiled. This course, when added to the original Robert von Hagge-designed 18-hole course from six years earlier, brings the total number of holes in play to twenty-seven.
The four par threes on the von Hagge layout (at holes 2, 7, 11 and 14) are instantly memorable holes, each of them playing downhill from tee to green. Not only are they visually stunning holes, they’re very demanding too, with only the 14th measuring less than 195 yards from the back markers.
When the course hosted the Mastercard Classic for professional female golfers in 2005, it was the first time in thirty years that an officially sanctioned LPGA Tour event had been held in Mexico. The tournament ran for five years with Annika Sorenstam claiming the first two titles and Pat Hurst winning the final event in 2009.
