Originally established as Bodenstown Golf Club in 1972, Beech Park Golf Club moved to its current location on the Johnstown estate in 1983, with Eddie Hackett called in to design a new course for the membership. An initial 9-hole layout was brought into play before another nine holes were added two years later to form the course that’s still in play today.

“Sitting just on the edge of Dublin, it is very attractive to a huge number of golfers,” writes author Kevin Markham in his book Hooked: an amateur’s guide to the golf courses of Ireland, ”one of the reasons it works so well is that it starts off gently with the tame and generous holes… the front nine are open and easy to handle... then it gets interesting… the sort of course everyone will enjoy,”

Measuring 5,784 metres from the back markers, the course is set out as two returning nines which play to a par of 72. Highlight holes include the long, uphill par five 7th (narrowing considerably towards the green); the short par four 11th (where the green sits behind a lovely little lily pond); and the last of the par threes at the 15th, which plays to a two-tiered green.
