Bad Ragaz
Bad Ragaz, Sankt Gallen- AddressHans-Albrecht-Straße, 7310 Bad Ragaz, Switzerland
Three generations of the Harradine family were involved in the design, construction and renovation of three different courses in Bad Ragaz over a period of more than eighty years. Albert Hockey, the stepfather of Donald Harradine, upgraded the original 9-hole course in 1925 whilst carrying out his other duties as Club Manager and Professional.
Donald Harradine re-modeled the same layout four years later then returned with Fred W. Hawtree to construct the existing 18-hole course in 1956. In more recent years, Peter Harradine built the “Heidiland” 9-hole executive layout next to his father’s 18-hole layout.
The course is situated on the floodplain of the River Rhein so the wooded landscape’s a little flat but the impressive mountain surroundings make this one of the most picturesque places to tee it up and many are the number of golfers who have succumbed to the charms of Bad Ragaz.
The course has hosted the Swiss Senior Open since 1997 and it’s one of the most popular events on the European Senior Tour. It’s also a course where there’s been some fabulous scoring exploits in recent years as four players – Juan Quiros (2006), three-time winner Carl Mason (2008), Angel Fernandez (2011) and André Bossert (2015) – have all equalled the lowest score in Senior Tour history when posting a total of 61 shots for one of their rounds.
