Two 18-hole layouts were originally planned for the Spanish-themed property called Andalusia at Coral Mountain, but the 18-hole East course at Andalusia Country Club is the only golf attraction within the 1,000-acre Coachella Valley residential development.
The layout, co-designed by Keith Evans and Rees Jones, debuted in 2006 and it occupies what was once flat, barren terrain that was transformed into a verdant golfing landscape by excavating soil to fashion fairway contours then forming attractive ponds and lakes in the voids where the earth had come from. Throw in a rock waterfall here and there and you end up with a rather alluring desert golf track.
In The American Private Golf Club Guide, author Daniel Wexler had this to say about Andalusia: “the course is fairly typical Rees, with massive, over-scaled bunkers seemingly everywhere along the fairways, water highly visible but often not too invasive, and strategic considerations creeping only occasionally into play. As with many such desert layouts, water holes are generally the most memorable.”
The architect's design notes paint a glowing picture: "The Santa Rosa Mountains frame this lush private course located in the Coachella Valley in LaQuinta, California. Several hundred large palm trees along with scenic lakes, streams and magnificent waterfalls augment the playability and beauty of this outstanding venue."
