Amarilla
Amarilla Golf, Canarias- Address38639 Amarilla Golf, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain
Constructed in the late 1980s, just after the neighbouring Golf del Sur complex was opened, Amarilla offers fine, no frills holiday golf in the south of Tenerife – and for those unable or unwilling to play a full 18-hole round, there is a very pleasant 9-hole pitch and putt course beside the main layout.
The round begins in freewheeling fashion with the first four holes played downhill from the clubhouse to the Atlantic coast. The signature hole on the card is then played at the par three 5th, where the tee shot is fired across a rocky inlet to a pulpit green precariously perched some 145 yards away from the teebox.
The next five holes play inland again before the 11th returns you to the sea again at San Miguel Marina and the par three 12th, set against the rocky shore. Holes 13 to 15 are routed back up to the clubhouse then a final loop of three is played, beginning with the (stroke index 1) 16th where the severely undulating fairway seems unable to offer an even stance along its 550-yard length.
