In August 2005, the Professional Golfers Association of India named Aamby Valley “Golf Course of the Year”. Set on an enchanting plateau, it hosted the inaugural Aamby Valley Asian Masters tournament on the Asian Tour in May 2006.

Situated high above Bombay in the cooler climes of the Western Ghat Mountains, 2,500 feet up, there are very few golf courses in the world with such a BIG vista, stretching out for miles and miles around the plateau-positioned championship golf course, laid-out by renowned British golf architect, and Senior Member of the EIGCA, David Hemstock.

“The golf course follows the lie of the land, as it should. I noticed on my first visit to the site, back in the late 90's, that the way the rock had flowed out volcanically in time immemorial, to form a raised, undulating, finger-like land-form, allowed a layout with every hole orientated in a different direction. This is a sometime windy site, and I felt it was important not just for variety, but also for relief from the wind to have this feature in the master plan” says David.

“We did move rock to form water features, but otherwise we restored an area of jungle to the spaces within the golf course, whilst making something very special for the golfer. I spent a lot of time on site fine-tuning, positioning bunkers, preserving mature trees, solving the considerable technical problems on the tough, soil less site. All worth it in the end; since opening, the course has received many accolades, not least from the Indian Pro-Golfers, who voted it the best in the country. It is a great honour.”
